We made a start on the new repertoire. Many thanks to Paul for accompanying this week.
The first of the sectional rehearsals (workshops) took place with the altos staying behind for 15 mins. Next week it is the turn of the basses so others are free to leave at 8.45pm.
We continue to sing socially distanced, masks for those who wish, and we ask that everyone takes a lateral flow test before the rehearsal.
NB: Next rehearsal is on Tuesday 3rd May
After a vocal warm up we looked at the following pieces.
- Viva la musica (Blue books 24)
- Watch the rhythms eg Bar 1 – start on the first beat of bar, Bar 2 – start after quaver rest
- Vivaldi Gloria
- We learned the notes, rhythms and how parts fit together for the whole piece
- Pronounce Gloria as ‘Gloria(r) but do not carry the ‘r sound into next word eg Bar 32 ‘Gloria(r) – in excelsis
- In legato sections, spread the vowels out eg in = ‘een’, excelsis = ‘exchelsees’. Keep ‘s’ sound as short and late as possible
- In Bar 31 take a breath, watch page turn to continue ‘gloria in excelsis’
- Bar 44/45, put the ‘l’ of excelsis right at the beginning of Bar 45
- The Phoenix will rise
- We learned the notes, rhythms and how parts fit together for Chorus 1 on p3.
